NEWS ACRES IN THE NEWS Monkey kept illegally in warehouse A monkey kept illegally as a pet was confiscated from a warehouse near Alexandra road last week. Acting on a tip-off from animal welfare group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres), officers from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) raided the warehouse off Malan road. They found a female rhesus macaque chained up in the compound. The species is not native to Singapore. Acres president Louis Ng said the animal was living in “horrible” conditions and was “extremely obese”. It is now housed at AVA's Centre for Animal Welfare and Control and its owner will be prosecuted. ......................................................................................................................................................... |
