Smuggled monkey seized
A female rhesus macaque, which was illegally kept as a pet in a warehouse off Malan road in Telok Blangah, has been confiscated, following a raid by officers from the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.
The monkey was found chained inside the compound last Friday. Said Acres president Louis Ng: “She was in horrible living conditions and was extremely obese.”
The monkey was probably illegally imported, said Acres. It added that the monkey's owner will be prosecuted.
