FAQ ON THE ACRES AND RESORTS WORLD
SENTOSA (RWS) PARTNERSHIP

Q1. How did this partnership come about?

A: RWS approached us and told us that they were planning not to serve shark's fin soup in their restaurants and asked for ACRES support and endorsement for this policy. ACRES agreed, as we believe that the shark's fin trade is unsustainable and involves cruel capture and slaughter methods.

Q2. What are your roles in this?

A:
ACRES is publicly stating our support for this move to leave shark's fin soup off the menu and we will be encouraging the public to support this. We will also urge other companies and restaurants in Singapore to follow this progressive lead by RWS.

Q3: Are there any strings attached to this partnership?

A: This partnership is focussed on shark fin and not any other issues. We reserve the right to publicly disagree on other issues, which RWS respects.

Q4: Can you still say that you are independent and not beholden to corporate interests?

A: Both parties have made that clear. We are supporting this policy and the foundation of the fund.

Q5. Is RWS paying you under this partnership?

A: No.

Q6. Is this a sell out on your stand on other issues, such as whale sharks and dolphins in captivity?

A: Not at all. These are completely separate issue. We will continue to hold discussions with RWS with regard to welfare implications of keeping whale sharks and dolphins in captivity. ACRES principles remain that we are against the keeping of whale sharks and dolphins in captivity.

Q7. Do you agree that RWS's approach with regard to shark's fin soup is best practice, i.e. making an exception for high rollers?

A: No, we feel that shark's fin soup should be left out from the menu completely for all customers, in order to have the maximum impact.
