FULL-TIME JOB OPPORTUNITIES AT ACRES

The Acres Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) is Singapore’s first wildlife rescue centre for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Spanning 2 hectares, the AWRC will provide a safe haven for more than 400 wild animals and will serve as an important educational facility to raise awareness on the illegal wildlife trade.

The animals arriving at the AWRC will often be seriously abused and severely neglected. We will provide the animals the professional care needed for their recovery. Our aim is to make the animals mentally and physically healthy and to place them in a more natural environment, such as in a natural enclosure or in a zoo that meets the Acres acceptable standards for the well being of the animals.

The AWRC is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2007 and is currently accepting applications for the following full-time positions:

AWRC Veterinarian

1. AWRC Veterinarian

Description:
Responsible for the preliminary health checks of all animals coming into the AWRC and for providing optimal preventive veterinary care and veterinary care to the animals at the centre. He/She will maintain the AWRC hospital and quarantine centre and will work closely with the AWRC Director to ensure that the living conditions and husbandry practices are, at all times, optimal for the health and well-being of the animals. He/She will also assist in the supervision of volunteer and educational activities on a daily basis.

Qualifications:
Minimum degree in veterinary science. At least 2 years experience in hands-on animal care. Hands-on experience with wild animals an advantage. Experience in public-speaking helpful.

Interpersonal Skills:
Flexibility and ability to adapt to challenging situations, hard-working and self-motivated, fair and consistent, excellent communication through both verbal and written skills, excellent organisational skills; empathy for animal welfare and wildlife conservation.

Term:
3 years minimum, 6 years preferred.

Salary:
Negotiable
