“Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight.”
— Albert Schweitzer
This year marks a very special milestone for ACRES – our tenth birthday! Over the past decade we’ve helped hundreds of animals in need, from victims of the illegal wildlife trade to injured or displaced native wild animals to those in substandard zoos. We’ve opened Singapore’s first dedicated wildlife rescue centre, made it harder for wildlife traders to continue their ruthless trade, raised much-needed awareness on animal protection issues and so much more, bringing the animal welfare movement forward in leaps and bounds.
All this has been possible only because of you and your support. This is why it would mean the world to us to have you join us at the ACRES Gala Dinner 2011 to celebrate our birthday. We want to share with you the highlights, the struggles, the laughter and the tears from the past eventful decade at ACRES.
What makes this evening even more special is that we will be channelling all the proceeds towards building a new wildlife veterinary clinic at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre.
From starting out with just one or two calls a week, the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team (on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) now has its hands full, responding to over 100 calls every month. Since August 2009, we have rescued over 1,000 animals and successfully rehabilitated and released over 650 of them back to the wild. Others, rescued from the illegal exotic pet trade, now find a safe haven at the AWRC until they can hopefully be returned to their country of origin.
With this exponential increase in wildlife rescues, ACRES is seeking to develop our current veterinary care facility into a fully-equipped wildlife veterinary clinic, meaning that we can provide even more comprehensive care to the rescued animals on-site.
With an on-site wildlife veterinary clinic at the AWRC, we will also be able to enhance our veterinary internship programmes, providing vets and veterinary students a more conducive environment to gain experience in wildlife medicine - experience which is often hard to come by.
Our full-time vet and our friends at the Animal Recovery Centre will be overseeing the clinic’s development.
To build the clinic and to operate for the first year we need to raise $100,000.
There are many ways to help us make this evening a special one for the animals.
1. Book a table or a few seats! It would mean so much to us if we can share our 10th birthday celebration with you. Tickets start at $150 each. Download the Standard Booking Form below.
2. Sponsor a table or a few seats and have your logo placed on all Gala Dinner collaterals! Download the Sponsorship Proposal and Sponsor Booking Form below.
3. Make a donation. This can be cash or an auction / lucky draw item to make this evening an even more memorable one! Please contact leanora@acres.org.sg for more details.
We just couldn’t do the work we do without your kindness, generosity and support. And, just as no animal is too small to help so, too, no donation is too small to make a difference. And if you drop in at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre, you’ll see just how good we are at stretching the dollars, making every little go a long way.
