AWARENESS Humane Education for All Life: HEAL Launched in 2008, HEAL is ACRES’ exciting new Humane Education programme for primary schools. The programme nurtures compassion for all life and respect for the natural world in our youngest members of society, as well as motivating children to make contribution to society and the world at large. Humane Education explores how we might live with compassion and respect for everyone - not just our friends and neighbours but all people; not just our dogs and cats but all animals; not just our homes but the earth itself; our ultimate home. Humane education opens young people's eyes, awakens their compassion, and inspires them to help create a better world. Teaching children compassion towards animals, the most vulnerable members of society, the ones with no voice, undoubtedly creates a more gracious and compassionate society. Through the modular four-part HEAL education programme, comprising engaging drama skits, presentations, videos, animations and hands-on activities, children are introduced to the concept of animals as sentient beings in an engaging and entertaining way. Through HEAL, our youngest members of society are empowered with the knowledge of how they can make the world a better place for every living thing we share it with and the resources to get started! Topics covered by the HEAL programme are: The HEAL programme is accompanied by a Humane Education Teacher’s Pack, containing lesson plans and ideas for classroom-based follow up activities which can be incorporated into various curriculums, including Civics and Moral Education and Science. If you or your school is interested in finding out more about the HEAL Programme please contact Amy Corrigan, Director of Research and Education amy@acres.org.sg The HEAL Programme is supported by the Lee Foundation and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). A proportion of the proceeds from the 2008 Voices of the Wild gala dinner have also been channelled towards the HEAL Programme.

| As animals cannot speak up for themselves, it is up to humans to give them a voice, speak up their behalf and end their abuse. |
